Create a Snowscape

Capture the look of the first snowfall with a homemade snow globe.* It’s so simple to make — all it takes is an empty Heinz® HomeStyle Gravy jar and a little imagination.

*Inspired by Martha Stewart

Step 1:

Thoroughly clean your Heinz® HomeStyle Gravy jar using warm, soapy water to remove the label. If necessary, try a mild cleaner or goo remover.

Step 2:

Purchase one or more small plastic or ceramic figurines at your local hobby or craft shop.

Step 3:

Make the surface of the lid rough by sanding it. Glue the figurine(s) to the lid with a clear-drying epoxy, and let the epoxy dry completely.

Step 4:

Fill the jar with cold or distilled water, leaving about 1/2 inch at the top. Add a bit of sparkle by putting a small amount of glitter into the jar. A splash of glycerin (not too much) will help keep the glitter suspended for a longer time. Make sure the lid is screwed on tightly. You may want to add hot glue to the rim of the lid to seal the jar. Once dry, invert the jar. And your snow globe is ready for display!

Decoration Ideas:

  • Use an oil-based enamel paint to paint the lid a festive color.
  • Tie a bow with ribbon around the base (lid) of the snow globe.
  • Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the water for added effect.
